What we know about The Witcher season 2 so far

09. 09. 2021

The last episode of season 1 of The Witcher came out on September 20 2019 and we have been impatiently waiting for season 2 since then. The wait was made more pleasant with the animated movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, but now there is only season 2 ahead of us. So, what do we know about it?

We can watch the next season on Netflix, just like the first one, it comes out on December 17. The first episode of eight is called “A grain of truth“. There is not much known about the plot of each episode, but for the book fans the plot should correspond to the third book of the Witcher series and first book in the novel series called Blood of Elves from Andrzej Sapkowski. According to the trailer, we can look forward to Ciri’s  witcher training at Kaer Morhen, where witchers from the School of the Wolf  train. Kaer Morhen will definitely please fans of the games, in the series, it will correspond to its game model. We should definitely mention the hall in the middle, where next to the fire pit, there is a tree with medallions of fallen witchers, as a reminder to those who passed. At Kaer Morhen, there is also a lab where witchers are created, when they go through Trial of the Grasses.

Did you know that The Witcher is filmed across Europe? The first season was shot mostly in Hungary, in studios near Budapest. Filming was also done in Spain, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Season 2 filming was accompanied by complications because of the pandemic. Luckily, in the end the production started and filming could begin.

Who we are all looking forward to is definitely Henry Cavill in the main role as Geralt of Rivia. Apart from him, we will also see other favourite characters from the first season, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as bard Jaskier. However there will also be new characters, for example witchers Vesemir, Lambert, Eskel and Coën. We will meet these characters at Kaer Morhen. Compared to the last season, we should meet all of these characters in one timeline. This should solve the problem that many had with the first season that crossing the timelines of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri was confusing.

Although the show is quite popular, the third season is not yet confirmed. Even though the filmmakers have up to 7 seasons planned, it depends on how the second season will be received. And there is a lot to take from! In the book series, there are 2 books with short stories, 5 novel books that are tied together and a prequel to the novels. We hope that we will enjoy The Witcher for a long time and can’t wait for the new season!
