Just a few people would be unfamiliar with the cosmic adventures of the superhero group Guardians of the Galaxy. Still, there are many interesting facts about the film that may only be known to some. Join us here at Posters to take a look at a few of them to celebrate the third movie of Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3, which is coming to theaters now!
Peter Quill’s character carries a Walkman with a cassette tape containing hits from the 60s and 70s that helped shape the atmosphere of the entire show. Twelve songs from the film later formed the album Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol 1. The soundtrack album was so successful that it reached number one on the Billboard charts. Some of the well-known songs from the album include Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Moonage Daydream.
Thanos is the main villain of the MCU’s first section, first portrayed by Damion Poitier in a brief scene in The Avengers (2012), and replaced by Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy, who filmed in motion capture pajamas and his costume was only completed in post-production. The actor has expressed that he was eager to play a CGI character, as he was impressed by the video of Benedict Cumberbatch’s crawling dragon Smaug in The Hobbit and wanted to experience something similar.
According to James Gunn, Groot is one of the characters that fans are closest to. A cute little talking tree with a touch of naivety, something that people love! The director was inspired by his own dog Von Spears when creating Groot, for example, their eyes are said to be very similar. Some parts of the dog’s face were subsequently used for the raccoon character Rocket.
Vin Diesel learned the famous “I am Groot” phrase in six different languages for the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but had to learn almost three times as many for the second. It’s easier to hire multiple voice actors for different language versions, but Vin Diesel’s voice is said to be so distinctive and shapes the overall character of Groot that the filmmakers preferred fans to hear his original voice.
Although a considerable amount of CGI technology was used for characters like Drax and Gamora, actors Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldaña had to undergo several hours of make-up routines every time they were on set. However, using real makeup instead of the full use of technology paid off in the end, as the first Guardians of the Galaxy film received an Academy Award nomination in the make-up category.
