We have finally been blessed with the 4th season of the Stranger Things series. Well, not a complete one, of course, because another two parts are coming out in July, however we have got seven spectacular episodes. Watch out! The article contains mild spoilers, so if you have not watched it yet, read on at your own risk.
Compared to the previous seasons, the plot is shattered into various venues. Eleven, Will, Jonathan and Joyce moved to California, Hopper is in the Russian labour camp and the rest of the protagonists stay in Hawkins town. Except for the good old folks we get to know a few new faces here. Amongst who are Eddie, the Hellfire club member, Argyle, Jonathan’s friend in California, or the main villain of the whole season, Vecna.
Vecna is a mystery to us for quite a whole season but his exposure is one of the best moments in the season. The actor of Vecna must have been covered by pieces of his costume by sticking them on his own skin every day. According to the cast, the record of completing the coverage was 6 hours and 20 minutes. In addition with CGI we encounter one of the most terrifying antagonists in the series.
In comparison with preceding seasons, the 4th one is much scarier. That is strengthened by several references to the horror classics. The scene on skates refers to the story of Carrie by Stephen King, Nancy and Robin in the asylum ressemble a scene from the Silence of the Lambs, but the most visible similarity is to A Nightmare On Elm Street. Not only the characters in trance resemble the dream realm of Freddy Krueger but even the style of Vecna’s murders is alike. You can even see Freddy himself in the series. Actor Robert Englund performs as Victor Creel.
The soundtrack plays a huge part in the series. During the first episodes of the 4th season, you can listen to the classics like California Dreamin’, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), Dream A Little Dream of Me or Psycho Killer. Nevertheless the top buster was Running Up That Hill from Kate Bush. The track climbed up to the #1 on the iTunes chart and to the top places in 34 countries.
The rest of the 4th season is coming out soon! Are you ready?
