Almond Blossom (1889)

Almond Blossoms is a group of several paintings of flowering almond trees painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1888 and 1890 in Arles and Saint-Rémy in southern France. Flowering trees were special to van Gogh. They represented awakening and hope. The works reflect the influence of Impressionism and Japanese woodblock prints. The Mandolin Flower was created to celebrate the birth of his nephew and namesake, the son of his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo.
